WHERE OUR FOOD COMES FROM....
As part of our overall policy of wherever possible reducing “food miles” and developing a personal relationship with actual suppliers – much of the produce used in our menus is regionally grown or produced.
Some of it is organic – but mostly it is the result of great care and passion on the part of small growers who are changing the face of agribusiness in our state, and for whom biodiversity and sustainable agricultural practices are firmly on the agenda.
Food and wine are consuming passions in Daylesford, and with good reason. A quirk of sunlight, soil and rain means anything in the ground almost grows itself.
There's an undisguised pride amongst local producers, winemakers and restauranteurs. So expect to wine and dine very well in Daylesford and surrounds. With such a wide range of experiences from farm gates, markets, cellar doors, provodores, country pubs, wine bars to world class fine dining - you'll be spoilt for choice. The region was awarded Best Food Region in the Delicious Produce Awards and provides visitors with a Tasty Touring Map and pocket Cook Book that helps to link the 100+ food and wine experiences on offer.
THE ARTIST STUDIO
Allan Wolf-Tasker, Lake House co-proprietor and talented artist distributes his work to collectors worldwide. His studio is found onsite at Lake House and he welcomes guests to have a look at what he’s currently working on. A selection of his works is on display throughout the property and in each of the individual guest rooms.
SALUS DAY SPA
The state-of-the-art Spa is surrounded by waterfall fed streams and offers ten treatment areas. A team of specialist massage therapists offer the best of holistic, remedial, deep tissue and relaxation treatments whilst a dedicated beauty team perform such indulgences as Advanced Performance Facials from the premium Elemis Range.
Mineral Water…In a region that boasts the largest concentration of naturally occurring mineral springs in Australia, Salus Mineral & Spring Water is available for guests to drink on site. Private geisha style tubs are filled with 100% pure mineral water for each guest. Whilst submerged in the therapeutic bubbles guests can look through the louvered shutters to the lake shore below.
Signature Seasonal Treatments… Signature seasonal treatments use first pressed essential oils and speak of the region’s bounty – we utilise rosemary, pine and eucalyptus in Winter; magnolia, citrus and lilac in Spring.
Signature Treatment - Salus Bliss... Utilising the seasonal fragrances found throughout the Wombat State Forest and the local countryside, this body treatment combines a soothing rhythmic massage using hot volcanic rocks and warm oil to reduce tension and ease muscle aches. The body is then polished with Lime and Ginger salts to remove rough skin. Whilst you are all wrapped up, a soothing face and scalp massage completes this nourishing experience. Finish off with a Hydrostorm experience where steam assists the absorption of essential oils whilst Vichy jets and Waterfall showers rinse away the salt, exposing beautiful soft skin - fresh, nourished and rejuvenated.
WELLNESS RETREATS
The Wellness Revolution has not been ignored at Lake House. Over the years we have noticed a change in the way people approach food and wine. Visitors to Lake House certainly do not deny themselves – impossible with such inspiring menus. However increased activity and care with the way we treat our bodies has become more evident. It is not uncommon to see guests taking walks around Lake Daylesford – or jogging into the Wombat State Forest – the properties location is ideal for those wanting to enjoy the clean country air. Yoga classes and Tai Chi have also become a popular activity for residential guests. The addition of the Salus Spa provides a holistic solution for a preventative approach – offering a range of treatments for men and woman wanting to indulge the mind, body and spirit.
Spa Cuisine at Lake House is about utilizing the best seasonal produce as often as possible from local sources. The latter is important to us in terms of reduction of food miles and knowing that the grower or producer practices organic or at least sustainable agricultural practices. Spa cuisine at Lake House is about balance and the utilization of appropriate amounts of ingredients from all the critical food groups but without excess sugars, salts, fats and carbohydrates. Spa Cuisine at Lake House is not about denial!
