Arkaba Station

Stay

Surrounded by lawns and garden, Arkaba’s homestead has retained its original lines and style.  The slightly battered corrugated iron roof, thick stone walls and deep verandahs are typical of the style of 19th century homesteads in South Australia.

Four guest rooms are located in the homestead itself while a fifth, the Coachman’s Cottage, is located 50 yards away in a corner of the garden.   All rooms have en suite bathrooms, air conditioning and top quality furnishings and bed linens. Designed with the station’s early settler history in mind, the rooms more closely resemble a country home than a luxury hotel.  With no telephones, televisions, mini-bars or the typical features of a hotel room to distract, the focus is on the experience and one of the most beautiful stations in Australia.

Each guest room opens on to the homestead verandah, an ideal spot to relax in a planters’ chair with a good book and drink in the heat of the day.

“The newly renovated accommodation features five bedrooms and combines luxuries such as fine wines and food with touches of outback chic.” Kendall Hill, Australian Gourmet Traveller

Room configurations offer a mix of twin and king beds.  Linen is 100% organic cotton with 500 thread count and each guest has a choice of three pillows.

Two bathrooms have deep baths, while three have large showers.

“If ever there were a property that fulfilled every Australian’s romantic notion of station life it is the hauntingly beautiful Arkaba. Station chic, perhaps we should call it, with modified wool bales as side tables, bedheads fashioned from local pine and sheepskin, and feral goatskin rugs on the polished floors.  Life is lived around a fantastic old wool classers’ table on the terrace overlooking the ranges.  A cosy library with open fire and cheery kitchen, where Jo turns out bread, biscuits and three inventive meals a day (think warm, peppered kangaroo salad with figs and pistachio), add to the homestead’s relaxed charm.” Christine McCabe, The Australian

Rates include all meals, beverages and guided activities on the property.

The property is not suitable for children under the age of 8.

The property has a two night minimum stay and is open all year round.
