The Top End of Australia is renowned for its spectacular coastal floodplains, billabongs and mangrove fringed tidal rivers that empty into the Arafura Sea. In addition to its extraordinary natural beauty and its prolific wildlife, this region boasts one of the worlds great sports fish, the mighty Barramundi, both in the river systems and in the ‘run off’ on the floodplains. Bamurru Plains is a safari-style nine bungalow camp that exudes ‘Wild Bush Luxury’ in a remote and beautiful region. The prime fishing season is from 1 February until 30 April and during this period Bamurru Plains operates as a dedicated fishing lodge. From 30 April, Bamurru Pains operates as a luxury lodge with a diverse range of activities.

A selection of fishing facts

  • Local fishing spots that are accessible from Bamurru Plains include Shady Camp, Corroboree Billabong and the Tommycut and Sampan Creeks. For the really big ‘metre plus’ barra, Bamurru Plains offers the opportunity to fish the estuaries of the coastal creeks.

  • The highlight for any fisherman at Bamurru, however, is fishing on the Swim Creek floodplain by airboat. Catches of over 100 fish a day are a regular occurrence. Airboats are fitted with casting decks to maximize the experience of fishing the floodplain in spots that are only accessible by camp guests.

  • Escape by helicopter to remote fishing locations and tackle the mighty Barramundi. What a great way to see the vast expanse of floodplains, the coastal beaches, billabongs and the numerous estuarine creeks.  With the ability to land in remote locations, your pilot and fishing guide for the day will have you fishing at some incredibly wild & remote spots.
